Our clients loved their home and community. With roots established and their kids in school, a move was not an option, yet their home was no longer serving them. The family needed more functional floor space for everyone to spread out and for their things to have a landing spot. Additionally, we had to remediate rot and structural issues to be sure the home was safe for years to come.

Within the constraints of the existing home footprint, we devised a plan to relocate the primary bedroom and bathroom from the second floor to the first by repurposing a playroom, closet, and bathroom; giving the adults some separation from the kids and the kids more space on the second floor. With the former first floor bathroom now dedicated to the primary suite, we added a new powder room and coat closet near the main entry by borrowing some space from the living room. Additionally, we gutted the former side entry, studio, and loft to create a formal mudroom, family room with immediate access to their bucolic back yard patio and an open office space for working from home. And last but certainly not least, the kitchen was completely renovated from top to bottom. With the removal of a small wall and widening the entry, the kitchen now truly feels like the heart of the home.

“We only have great things to say about the Walczak team! They did a terrific job throughout the design process working with us to keep the character of the house, but also transforming it in a way that reflects our personalities. They then executed the vision, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We have felt right at home since Day One and are completely thrilled with our new space. We have recommended Walczak Design and Build to friends and will continue to do so!”
