Newburyport Addition and Kitchen Renovation

THE PROBLEM
The first floor of this home was simply not working hard enough for this growing family. In addition to a really outdated and dark kitchen that was cut off from the dining area, there was no great way to get to their nice big backyard. With young kids growing, and soon to be wanting to spend more time running in and out of the home, we had to find a better flow from destination to destination. In addition, we were challenged with adding more space, storage, and functionality in the kitchen.
THE SOLUTION
In order to create the space needed for this growing family, we built a 230 sq. ft. addition to bump out the kitchen and dining area that would provide ample space for family cooking, meals on the island, and entertainment.
The kitchen features quartz countertops on the perimeter and a white piracetam granite waterfall edge island. The subway tile backsplash is applied in a herringbone pattern. Soffits throughout the first floor were trimmed out with Douglas Fir and meticulously finished.
In addition to the eat-in kitchen space, the bump-out created room for the addition of french doors flanked by large double-hung windows allowing the family to dine “a la Fresca” at their dining room table or easily accessing the backyard for grilling and play while capturing much more natural light.
The entire first floor of the home was updated with new wide plank white oak floors, repainted, and new trim added.
“Derek and Lisa did a wonderful job putting on an addition and renovating our kitchen. We were impressed with the quality of work, attention to detail, and design aesthetic. Would highly recommend it, especially to anyone taking on a large project for the first time. By the end of the project, they felt like family!”
